SINGAPORE, July 13 - A Singapore inter-agencytask force studying ways to improve support forpeople with disabilities and their families willrelease its recommendations by the end of 2026.

According to CNA, that the task force isconsidering measures covering long-term careplanning, employment opportunities,community-based support and the affordabilityof disability services.

"We will improve families' access to planningsupport across transitions, so they can betteranticipate future needs with greater ease andconfidence," the Ministry of Social and FamilyDevelopment (MSF) was quoted as saying.

The Taskforce on Assurance for Families withPersons with Disabilities, announced by PrimeMinister Lawrence Wong in December 2025, hasbeen consulting people with disabilities,caregivers, employers and service providerssince January.

It reportedly completed 31 engagement visits asof July 10, including sessions with specialeducation schools, healthcare providers and families.

MSF said the recommendations would helpfamilies plan for changing care needs whileimproving support for people with disabilitiesentering the workforce or seeking to remainemployed.

The average employment rate among peoplewith disabilities reportedly rose from 28.2 percent in 2018/2019 to 34.7 per cent in 2024/2025.

Proposed measures include developingworkplace skills in schools, improving school-to-work transition programmes and expandingreskilling and support services for workers andemployers.

The task force is also examining ways to helppeople with disabilities and their caregiversparticipate in community activities whilekeeping essential services affordable.

Minister of State for Social and FamilyDevelopment Goh Pei Ming said the feedbackreceived had reinforced the need for continuousand reliable support throughout different stagesoflife.

The initiative is intended to complementSingapore's Enabling Masterplan 2030 by takinga family-centred approach to disability support.
